I Tried Vibe Coding for the First Time  And Built a Real Stock App

I had no idea what "vibe coding" was 😜!

That's honestly where this story starts. I kept seeing the term pop up and I had zero clue what it meant. So I did what anyone does  I searched YouTube. I found a video called Vibe Coding Full Course for Beginners by Naman Gupta (9.43k subscribers at the time), and decided to just follow along and figure it out.

So What Even Is Vibe Coding? 😏

Once I started watching, it actually made sense. Vibe coding is basically describing what you want to build in plain language and letting AI do the heavy lifting. You're not writing syntax line by line. You're describing your idea, your vibe and the AI turns it into a working app.

And I thought  okay, let me actually try this. 😎πŸ’ͺ

My First Build: A Live Stock Price App πŸ’ΈπŸ€‘

I wanted to test something real. Not a to-do list, not a counter app. Something that actually pulls live data and does something useful.

So I typed this prompt:

"Can you build an app for me that gives me the stock price and related financial information about a company when I enter a stock symbol. I don't want to have to give you anything external like an API key and I don't want you to use mock data — make the data accurate."

What came back genuinely surprised me.

It built a Yahoo Finance data app — completely functional. I could enter any ticker symbol (AAPL, MSFT, ^GSPC, whatever) and it would show me:

  • Live price
  • Day range and 52-week range
  • Volume
  • A 6-month price chart

And it pulled all of this live from Yahoo Finance via a server function , no API key required.

Then I Changed the Theme πŸ’₯

The first version worked perfectly but it looked very plain - white background, basic styling. Not the vibe I wanted for a finance app.

So I just asked:

"Can you make the theme a sleek dark financial theme?"

And just like that, it became something I actually wanted to look at:

  • Deep navy background with a subtle radial gradient
  • Amber primary accent color
  • Monospace typography (feels very Bloomberg terminal)
  • Uppercase tracked labels
  • Glowing call-to-action button
  • Emerald and red change badges with ▲▼ arrows

It went from a plain white form to something that looked like a real financial dashboard.

The Moment That Got Me ✌πŸ˜‡

I opened the app and I typed in a ticker and looked at the number it gave me.

Then I opened a browser tab and checked the same stock.

The numbers matched.

That was the moment. It wasn't mock data. It wasn't fake. It was pulling real, live stock information and displaying it in an app I had just described in plain English  using Lovable.

I even recorded a short video of it working.

Where I'm At Now πŸ’—

I'm still at the very beginning. I've built one app. I'm still learning what's possible.

But I'm already hooked. The gap between "I have an idea" and "I have a working app" just got a lot smaller. You don't need to know how to code to start building things that actually work.

And honestly❓That's kind of wild.😝

If you're curious about vibe coding, go watch Naman's beginner course on YouTube and just try building one thing. Start with something you actually want to use. See what happens.

I'll keep writing about this as I go.

This is blog #5 in my series where I document things I'm learning as I go.
